Writerly Things…8/12/18
Traci Kenworth

It’s been a busy week. I’ve been working on getting my manuscript ready for PitchWars, failing that, submission. It’s working out better than I thought and I’m fixing the problems I noticed along the way. For me, I had a problem with description. As in, too much of it. I had to go in and pare down. Another issue is too many new characters in each chapter. Mine is a big world, there’s a lot but I cut out as many as I could. There will be time in future books, to introduce more that aren’t absolutely needed at the moment. I also noticed some crutch words I had to take care of. I made decisions on the worldbuilding, as to what needed italicized versus not. Studying Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse novels has helped. As I said, there are other novels I’m looking at as I go along as well.
I entered for a query and first page critique for PitchWars as well. I’ve been working on those as well and they’re as ready as I think I can make them. I can feel a difference in my writing as of late. I’m more sure, confidant. That was a long time coming my way.
I hope to keep up with the reblogs in the future though there are days I may not be able to do as many. It depends on when I get my chapters in for the day. I have such hopes for this year’s contest. I may not get in but that means there’s another road I will take, most likely the slushpile where I hear most agents get their authors from anyway.
How are all of you doing? Any news to report?
Have a great day, take care, and God bless!

  1. It sounds like you are doing well, Traci I have had my head down so my social media has suffered a little but going great guns with my cookery book …Not before time, I will add as I had let social media take over a bit too much… You, however, seem to be very organised…:) x

    1. I’m just juggling like everyone else I think. Some days I get more done than others, that helps.
