We keep hearing on the news from the electricity companies how there are still 39 million more Smart meters to install.  We had ours installed about 2 years’ ago and it’s supposed to save you lots of money, as apparently you suddenly become aware of how much electricity you’re using by constantly gazing at the digital display they give out, so that you end up turning off the oven and eating a sandwich instead.

To be perfectly honest, I’ve no idea where our display thingy is, and our electric bills are no different than they used to be, as we still use the same appliances.  Therefore I think this ruse helps the electricity companies more, as they’re the ones who save money by not having to pay the meter readers any salary.  Also, surprise surprise, they’re probably more suspicious of households who did not sign up straight away to have…
