Thay locked the car doors. It was all she could think to do in that moment. She pulled the baby close to her breast, tears dripped on Ella’s tiny cheeks. This was it. This was how life ended. On the backstreet of nowhere, her and Ella against the darkness spreading across the land. There were other vehicles around her but no sign of other survivors of the attack. She lay her head back, the blood from her forehead oozing. She didn’t pray. God had already left his sentence on the world and it wasn’t good. In fact, it was very, very bad. She remembered as a little girl, swaying to the singing voices of the church members, her parents, both gone now beside her.

Two hands on the car window startled her. An old man with a little boy. Desperation lined his sweaty face. “Please, help us.” He pulled the boy forward. “This is my grandson, Toby.”

Toby hid behind his grandpa.

“Please, we need shelter.”

All her Christian teachings rose up in her. Perhaps, this was a new beginning. Thay unlocked the door.

Actually, it’s a YA Fantasy Horror series!
